New Delhi, Aug 21: Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his congratulations to Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor Shaktikanta Das on Wednesday for securing an “A+” rating for the second consecutive year in the ‘Global Finance Central Banker Report Cards 2024’.
In a response to a post by the Reserve Bank of India on X, PM Modi praised Governor Das, saying, “Congratulations to RBI Governor Shri @DasShaktikanta for this achievement, and that too for the second time.” He highlighted that this accolade reflects Das's effective leadership at the RBI and his contributions towards fostering economic growth and stability.
The Global Finance magazine has released its annual report, which grades central bank governors from nearly 100 countries, territories, and organizations, including the European Union and several regional central banks. The report evaluates leaders based on their performance in managing inflation, economic growth, currency stability, and interest rate policies.
Joseph Giarraputo, founder and editorial director of Global Finance, commented, “Central bankers have fought inflation in recent years with higher interest rates, and the positive effects are now evident as global inflation rates have significantly decreased.”
In related news, Governor Das expressed concerns on Tuesday about the ongoing gap between credit and deposit growth in banks, warning that it could pose future challenges and lead to liquidity issues.
