President Murmu Urges Students to Embrace Global Outlook While Staying Connected to Their Roots

New Delhi, August 31: President Droupadi Murmu on Monday said India is expanding its presence on the global stage with greater confidence and asserted that fashion technology has immense potential to strengthen the country's global footprint.

Addressing the combined convocation ceremony of 18 National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) campuses in New Delhi, Murmu urged graduating students to make the most of the opportunities before them while staying rooted in India's cultural values.

"Students should maintain a global outlook while remaining firmly connected to their roots and the core values of our culture," the President said.

Murmu highlighted the importance of India's textile and apparel sector, saying it is not only an integral part of the country's cultural heritage but also a source of livelihood for millions of people.

She stressed the need to support traditional artisans and weavers, noting that providing them with appropriate guidance and opportunities could inspire younger generations to continue in the profession with pride and confidence.

The President also expressed appreciation for initiatives undertaken by various NIFT campuses, including the 'Craft Cluster Initiative'. The programme aims to familiarise weavers and artisans with modern techniques in the textile and apparel sector while helping connect them with wider markets, according to an official release.

Murmu said such initiatives can create a meaningful link between India's rich traditional craftsmanship and contemporary fashion and technology.

By combining modern skills with an understanding of India's cultural heritage, students can not only build successful careers but also play an important role in preserving and enriching the country's traditional arts and crafts, she added.
