Malkangiri, Jan 30: Two Maoists were killed in an encounter with security forces in the Kavaragatta forest area of Chhattisgarh, marking a major operational success, officials said.

Based on intelligence inputs about the presence of Maoists in the region, security forces launched a search operation. During the operation, the Maoists allegedly opened fire on the personnel, prompting retaliatory action. In the exchange, two senior Maoists—identified as Pradeep and Bhima—were neutralised. Officials said both were involved in multiple incidents of violence.

Following the encounter, security forces carried out combing operations and recovered arms and ammunition from the site, including an AK-47 rifle, a pistol, bullets, and explosives. Search operations in the area are continuing.
