Rays Foundation, a prominent social and cultural organization in Odisha, recently hosted the 5th edition of its signature event, Swayamsidhha Samman 2026. Held at Sahid Bhavan in Cuttack to mark International Women's Day, the ceremony was dedicated to celebrating women who have achieved extraordinary success despite coming from humble backgrounds.
Distinguished Guests Celebrate Progress
Cuttack Municipal Corporation Mayor, Subhash Chandra Singh, inaugurated the ceremony as the chief guest. During his address, he emphasized that a nation's progress is intrinsically linked to the advancement of its women. He also lauded Rashmi Sahoo, the founder of Rays Foundation and daughter of the late Dr. Sarat Kumar Sahoo, describing her as a "Swayamsidhha" herself and a source of inspiration for many. Other notable attendees included Deputy Mayor Damayanti Majhi, Professor Dr. Arpita Priyadarshini, and international Odissi dancer Guru Saswat Joshi.
Recognising Diverse Excellence
The event spotlighted nine talented women from various fields who received the Swayamsidhha Samman 2026.
Pramila Raut from Athagarh was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award for her incense business.
Gayatribala Panda was recognized as a distinguished writer.
Dr. Raimati Ghiuria, known as the "Millet Queen," received the award for best model woman farmer.
Soubhagyalakshmi Jena was honored for her work as a producer and actress.
Tapaswini Patnaik received the best woman journalist award.
Jayashree Swain (Sports), Kabita Tripathy (Innovation), Krishna Priyadarshini Raut (Promising Woman), and Subhalaxmi Swain (Social Work) were also among the prestigious awardees.
Cultural Highlights and Future Vision
The evening featured vibrant cultural performances, including a special dance by children from the Uddhar Foundation and a "Dashavatar" performance by students from St. Xavier's, Jajpur. Renowned singer Jayashree Dhal moved the audience with a powerful musical performance. Event organizers and members of the Rayz Foundation, including Secretary Abhinash Singh, confirmed that the foundation remains committed to launching more social initiatives in the coming days.
