New Delhi, June 23: President Droupadi Murmu presented the prestigious Padma Awards during the second Civil Investiture Ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Tuesday evening, honouring distinguished individuals for their exceptional contributions across various fields.
Among the awardees, three eminent personalities from Odisha were conferred the Padma Shri, one of India's highest civilian honours.
Veteran educationist and litterateur Charan Hembram received the Padma Shri for his significant contributions to the fields of Literature and Education. Renowned artists Sarat Patra and Simanchal Patra were also honoured with the Padma Shri for their outstanding achievements in the field of Art.
A celebrated Sakhi Natak theatre artist from Odisha,Simanchal Patra was recognised for his remarkable contribution to traditional theatre and performing arts.Sarat Patra was similarly acknowledged for his exceptional work in preserving and promoting artistic traditions.
This year, the Government of India announced a total of131 Padma Awards, comprising 5 Padma Vibhushan, 13 Padma Bhushan, and 113 Padma Shri awards.
Instituted in 1954, the Padma Awards are among the country's highest civilian honours. Announced annually on the occasion of Republic Day, they recognise distinguished service and exceptional achievements in diverse fields, including Art, Literature, Education, Sports, Medicine, Social Work, Science and Engineering, Public Affairs, and Trade and Industry.
