Puri, Ap 30: A woman has come forward alleging that she was repeatedly physically abused by a man who had falsely promised to marry her. She is now six months pregnant.

According to the complainant, the man left her and eloped with another young woman. She approached the Sea Beach Police Station seeking justice.

The woman alleges that she had married Janua Sahi in 2019 under the Sea Beach Police Station jurisdiction and has a four-year-old son. Her husband, Kalia Behera, was often away for work and returned home intoxicated. During his absence, the accused, Harekrushna Behera, frequently visited her home, and over time, an illicit relationship developed. She claims Harekrushna lured her with promises of marriage, leading to their physical involvement.

When she became two months pregnant, she asked Harekrushna to marry her, but he refused. Following her complaint, Harekrushna was arrested and sent to jail, but was later released after his family promised the court to settle the matter by marrying the complainant. A notary agreement for marriage was even signed in March.

Despite this, Harekrushna left the complainant and went away with another young woman. The complainant is now six months pregnant and has warned authorities that she may attempt suicide along with her child if justice is not provided.

IIC Manas Ranjan Chakra of the Sea Beach Police Station stated that the matter is under investigation and appropriate action will be taken.
