Raikia, Nov 25: Raikia Police have successfully arrested four individuals in connection with the illegal cultivation of ganja in various locations of Sugadimah Panchayat. The arrested individuals have been identified as Suraj Nayak, Gopal Krishna Panda, Neela Madhav Bindhani, and Bhima Sen Nayak. The police received information about the illegal cultivation in the areas of Sandrenajyu, Kaligadu, and Naudimah, and have taken swift action.

According to police reports, approximately 52 acres of land used for ganja cultivation were destroyed. The police, along with the Excise Department, destroyed the cannabis plants, with an estimated value of around Rs 5.2 crore.

Despite ongoing efforts to curb the cultivation of ganja, the illegal farming of the drug continues to rise, along with the increasing smuggling and trade of cannabis. In response, the police, local authorities, and the Forest Department have been working together to destroy the illicit crops from land.

However, there are concerns about the ease with which large quantities of ganja are being transported. It has been reported that ganja consignments weighing thousands of kilograms continue to be moved via vehicles without being intercepted. Authorities are now focusing on how these operations are being carried out so efficiently and have vowed to intensify their investigation to prevent further illegal activity.

The matter remains under investigation, with further updates expected soon.
