Pramod Bhagat selected as flag bearer for Nagoya games
Para badminton champion Pramod Bhagat will proudly carry India's national flag during the opening ceremony of the fifth Asian Para Games in Nagoya, Japan, on October 18, 2026. He shares this significant continental honour with para table tennis star Bhavina Patel. Together, these two highly decorated athletes will guide the national squad into one of the most anticipated regional sporting events of the year.
Hailing from Odisha, Bhagat has consistently elevated the state's global sporting profile over a celebrated decade-long career. His regional roots and multiple world championship titles have inspired countless aspiring local youth to pursue competitive athletics professionally.
Between 2014 and 2023, Bhagat secured six medals at this specific tournament, claiming two golds and four bronzes. This sustained dominance makes him one of the most successful Indian competitors in the history of the event. Patel brings her own impressive tally of one silver and one bronze from previous editions. Their combined eight medals reflect remarkable consistency and provide strong leadership for the broader team competing through October 24.
