Veer Surendra Sai played a pivotal role in the First War of Independence in 1857, where he joined forces with other leaders to resist the British East India Company’s oppressive rule. His military prowess and strategic acumen made him a formidable opponent against the British. Although the uprising ultimately faced setbacks, Sai's resistance remained steadfast.
The Struggle for Odisha:
After the failure of the 1857 rebellion, Veer Surendra Sai shifted his focus to the liberation of his home state, Odisha. He led a relentless battle against British authorities who sought to annex Odisha’s princely states, including Sambalpur, into their empire.
