Burla, Sept 5: Post-mortem reports of 258 suspicious death cases are yet to be issued by the Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Science and Research (VIMSAR), Burla conducted during the last 21 months.

The post-mortem reports of 258 bodies have not been issued by the VIMSAR from January 2022 to July end following which the victims' family members are running from post to pillar for insurance and life cover policy money, said police.

 The family members have to apply for a death certificate at the municipality office after obtaining the autopsy report. Besides, the autopsy report is necessary for legal proceedings and judicial proceedings as a primary document.

According to reports, autopsy reports of 96 suspicious death cases in 2022 have not been issued by the VIMSAR. Five were reported in January, three cases in February, eight cases in March, 10 cases in April, 12 cases in May, seven cases in June, 14 cases in July, 10 cases in August, seven cases in September, 12 cases in October, five cases in November and four cases in December.

Similarly, reports of five cases in January 2023, eight cases in February, 13 cases in March, 12 cases in April, 25 cases in May, 35 cases in June, and 63 cases in July have not been received by police.

However, the Forensic Medicine and Toxicology (FMT) department professor Dr. Seema Perei said the autopsy reports are being prepared in due time. However, police are not taking the reports within due time.
