Police suspect involvement of 4 constables in Odisha police officer’s rifle stolen case

Bhubaneswar, March 7: Four constables are involved in theft of government-issued INSAS rifle belonging to a police officer at the 7th Battalion in Bhubaneswar, the preliminary investigation of Maitri Vihar police revealed.

The police are suspecting involvement of constable A K Nayak, Badal Swain, Basil Kiro and Hamid Khan.

According to reports, the police officer, P Lachhmaya, who was undertaking his duties by staying at the 7th Battalion in Bhubaneswar for President Droupadi Murmu's four-day visit to Odisha last week, alleged that his INSAS rifle was stolen.

He had registered a complaint at Maitri Vihar Police Station in Bhubaneswar in this connection.

According to police, the officer on February 15 had directed the four suspects to return back to the Special IRBn office in Bhanjanagar for their insincere attitude.

Irate over the action, they had treated the officer to watch what is going to happen during the coming eight to ten days.

The officer did not take it seriously. The four suspected were threatening constable G Nayak after returning from 7th Battalion in Bhubaneswar following which police have suspected them.
