Bhubaneswar, Feb 21: In a bid to boost the education sector in Odisha, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced plans for the establishment of new universities, engineering colleges, and medical institutions while presenting the state Budget proposal for the 2026-27 fiscal year in the Assembly today.
The state government will set up four new universities in key district headquarters, including Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Bhadrak, and Jharsuguda. Additionally, two new government engineering colleges will be established in Paradeep (Jagatsinghpur district) and Balangir.
To further enhance skills development, the state government plans to open five World Skill Center campuses across Odisha by 2036, with the goal of having seven campuses operational by 2047. The Chief Minister announced an allocation of Rs 278 crore for the establishment of two World Skill Center campuses in Sambalpur and Berhampur.
In his Budget speech, Majhi also highlighted plans for expanding medical education in the state. The government will set up three new Ayurvedic medical colleges in Gajapati, Malkangiri, and Rayagada districts, as well as two homoeopathic medical colleges in Nayagarh and Nuapada. A budget of Rs 140 crore has been allocated for these initiatives.
Further, the Chief Minister emphasized the development of specialized healthcare facilities, including the establishment of burn units at key hospitals in Puri, Burla, Koraput, Berhampur, and the Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar.
