Angul, Feb 28: A wedding celebration in Tubey village, located under Jarapada Police Station limits in Odisha's Angul district, turned into a medical emergency on Wednesday after over 25 people reportedly fell ill due to food poisoning. Around 20 of the affected individuals have been admitted to the District Headquarters Hospital for treatment, while several others are receiving care at private hospitals in the area.

The guests began experiencing symptoms of diarrhoea and vomiting shortly after consuming the wedding feast. As their condition worsened, they sought immediate medical attention. More than 15 individuals affected by these symptoms are currently under observation at the District Headquarters Hospital, confirmed the Additional District Chief Medical Officer of Angul.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the illnesses were caused by food poisoning. All affected individuals are under medical care.

To determine the exact cause of the food poisoning, a team from the District Headquarters Hospital will visit the site where the feast was held. Food and water samples will be collected from the venue and sent for laboratory testing to identify any contaminants.

Further action will be taken depending on the results of the laboratory tests, the Additional District Chief Medical Officer added.
