Bhubaneswar, Jan 19: Two successive western disturbances expected from Monday night and Wednesday night will affect north-west India, leading to a rise in night temperatures across eastern India, including Odisha. Weather experts have forecast that minimum temperatures may increase by 3 to 5 degrees Celsius, resulting in a reduction in cold conditions.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), most parts of Odisha are likely to record night temperatures above 12 degrees Celsius on Monday. Minimum temperatures are expected to hover around 16°C in Puri, 15°C in Bhadrak and Chhatrapur, and about 14°C in Paralakhemundi, Khordha, Chandbali and Bhadrak. The IMD has further stated that by January 20, night temperatures in most parts of coastal Odisha will remain above 15°C.

The warming trend is expected to continue, with night temperatures rising further over coastal Odisha on January 22 and 23. Under the influence of the western disturbance, a reduction in cold conditions has already been observed in parts of western and northern Odisha. For the first time in several days, temperatures have increased in Jharsuguda and Keonjhar.

On Sunday morning at 5:30 am, the minimum temperature was recorded at 8.8°C in Jharsuguda and 10.6°C in Keonjhar. These readings were 2°C and 1.2°C above normal, respectively. Other minimum temperatures recorded include 12.8°C in Paralakhemundi, 12.4°C in Kendrapara, 10.9°C in Bhubaneswar, and 10.2°C in Cuttack.
