Poacher arrested in Similipal Tiger Reserve, weapons seized

Mayurbhanj, Aug 12: A poacher has been arrested by forest department personnel at the Similipal Tiger Reserve (STR) in Odisha's Mayurbhanj district, an official reported on Sunday.
The arrest took place during a routine patrol on Saturday. The accused, identified as 43-year-old Mangal Bansingh, hails from Nuniagoda village in the district.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of forest personnel from the Chahala wildlife range conducted a patrol near the Poragoda footpath and discovered that a group of people had entered the core area of STR armed with weapons.
The team pursued the intruders and managed to apprehend Mangal. The officers seized a bow, three arrows, and a bag containing cooked rice from his possession.
An investigation into the incident has been initiated, and the accused is set to be presented in court, the official added.
