Bhubaneswar, Feb 3: In a significant step to enhance public access to land registration services, the Odisha government has announced the opening of 57 new Sub-Registrar Offices (SROs) across the state, starting from February 5. This expansion aims to provide greater convenience to citizens involved in land transactions, including purchase, sale, and property registration, while also easing the pressure on existing registration offices, which often experience heavy foot traffic.
The initiative is part of the state government's broader plan to decentralize services and improve the efficiency of land and revenue administration. With the addition of the new offices, the total number of Sub-Registrar Offices in Odisha will rise from 322 to 379, strengthening the state's registration infrastructure.
Officials believe that the new offices will have a significant impact in rapidly growing urban and semi-urban areas, where demand for land-related services has surged in recent years. The move is expected to reduce waiting times, improve service delivery, and bring registration services closer to citizens, particularly in areas that have previously been underserved.
According to a notification issued by the Revenue Department, the new Sub-Registrar Offices will begin operations on February 5. The government anticipates that the expansion will streamline administrative processes, simplify documentation, and ensure the timely completion of legal formalities for property buyers and sellers.
This initiative is being hailed as a major step toward more citizen-friendly governance in the land and revenue sector, with the potential to significantly improve the ease of doing business in Odisha's real estate and property markets.
