PM Modi's Bhubaneswar visit: Traffic restrictions announced, check routes and timings

Bhubaneswar, Oct 24: The Commissionerate Police has issued a traffic advisory for Bhubaneswar ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Odisha on Sunday, during which he is scheduled to inaugurate a Reserve Bank of India (RBI) data centre in Khurda.

According to a public notice issued by the Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Commissionerate Police, vehicular movement will be restricted on several major roads in the state capital from 5.40 pm to 6.40 pm on Sunday to facilitate the Prime Minister's movement and ensure smooth traffic regulation.

The restrictions have been imposed in view of security concerns involving VIPs and VVIPs and to minimise inconvenience to the general public.

Roads to remain closed

As per the advisory, traffic restrictions will be enforced along the route connecting the RBI Data Centre to Biju Patnaik International Airport in Bhubaneswar.

The designated route includes the RBI Data Centre, Infovalley Square, Talakheta Square, Batabhuasuni Square, NH-16 up to Jaydev Vihar Square, Behera Sahi Square, Sastrinagar Square, 120 Battalion Square, Power House Square, Lok Bhawan Golei, AG Square, Hospital Square, Soor Company Square and BPI Airport.

The police have specified that the restrictions will remain in force between 5.40 pm and 6.40 pm, during which commuters are advised to avoid the affected stretches.

Police urge commuters to plan journeys

The Commissionerate Police has appealed to residents and commuters to use alternative routes wherever possible and plan their journeys in advance to avoid inconvenience.

Motorists have also been advised to allow additional travel time and cooperate with traffic personnel deployed at various intersections to ensure smooth regulation of vehicular movement.

However, the restrictions will not apply to emergency vehicles, including ambulances, fire services and police vehicles.

Commissioner of Police Dr Suresh Dev Datta Singh has sought public cooperation in maintaining smooth traffic flow and ensuring the successful conduct of the Prime Minister's visit.

The advisory has been issued under Section 28 of the Odisha Urban Police Act, 2003, and Regulation 36 of the Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Police Commissionerate (Traffic and Public Order) Regulations, 2008.

The RBI's new data centre, constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 169 crore at Info Valley-II near Jatni, is expected to strengthen the central bank's data management, cybersecurity and disaster recovery capabilities.
