Bhubaneswar, Dec 29: In a bid to ensure a safe and peaceful New Year’s Eve, the city police have prepared an extensive security blueprint. Fifteen platoons of police personnel will be deployed across the city, with checking and blocking operations scheduled from 7 PM on December 31 to 2 AM on January 1. Authorities have made it clear that alcohol consumption will not be tolerated during the celebrations.

Police will monitor 18 checkpoints across the city to curb drinking and other untoward incidents. Five additional DCPs, eight ACPs, 30 Inspectors, and 96 SI/ASI officers have been assigned key security responsibilities.

Patrolling intensified

From 7 PM onwards, patrolling will be stepped up. Three additional DCPs, five ACPs, 24 Sub-Inspectors, and additional Sub-Inspectors will oversee the operations. Quick Response Teams (QRTs) have been deployed at Master Canteen, Kalpana Square, Khandagiri, Rasulgarh, and Kit Square, while striking forces will be stationed at Bani Vihar, Master Canteen, and NALCO Square to respond swiftly to any untoward situation.

At key locations like Nandan Kanan Road Kit Square and Tanishk Cut Point, police have been actively monitoring drinkers using breath analyzer machines. On Saturday night, authorities reported that offenders were caught and fined at 51 locations.

Plain clothes police to monitor tourist spots

During the New Year, heavy crowds are expected at tourist destinations and temples including Nandan Kanan, Deras, Jhumuka, Dhauli, Shree Lingaraj, Khandagiri, and Shikharachandi. Police forces will be deployed at these sites, with Nandan Kanan on January 2 and other tourist spots on January 5 receiving additional attention.

Plainclothes officers will patrol Niko Park, Botanical Garden, Ekamra Park, Biju Patnaik Park, IMFA Park, Nehru Park, Jagjivan Park, Mukharjee Park, Bani Vihar, IG Park, Science Park, Gautam Buddha Park, and MG Park to prevent thefts and maintain law and order.

Focused monitoring of bars and pubs

Police have also focused on areas with nightlife activity, including Cuttack Road and Chandrashekharpur Patia, where dance bars and pubs operate. Vehicles are being scanned at key points, and drinkers are being checked to ensure safety.

The city police have assured residents and visitors of a safe and secure New Year celebration through proactive deployment and strict monitoring across the city.
