Dispur (Assam), Sept 14: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for a series of major infrastructure and industrial development projects worth over Rs 18,530 crore in Assam today.
As part of his visit to the state, PM Modi will arrive in Darrang, where he is scheduled to address a public gathering and lay the foundation stone for several key projects. Among them are the Darrang Medical College & Hospital, a GNM School, a B.Sc. Nursing College, and the ambitious Guwahati Ring Road Project — a critical urban infrastructure initiative aimed at decongesting traffic and improving mobility in the capital region.
Additionally, PM Modi will lay the foundation stone for the Kuruwa–Narengi Bridge over the Brahmaputra River. This significant project is expected to enhance regional connectivity and drive socio-economic development across the area.
Later in the day, he will travel to Numaligarh in Golaghat district, where he will inaugurate the Assam Bio-Ethanol Plant at the Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL). The facility is a strategic part of India’s clean energy mission, aimed at reducing dependency on fossil fuels by promoting the use of renewable biofuels.
He will also lay the foundation stone for a Polypropylene Plant at NRL, marking a substantial investment in Assam’s expanding petrochemical industry. The new facility is projected to generate employment opportunities and fuel industrial growth in the region.
Ahead of Sunday’s events, PM Modi took part in a cultural programme in Guwahati on Saturday evening, commemorating the 100th birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Dr. Bhupen Hazarika. The event honored the iconic musician and cultural luminary, whose legacy in Assamese music, literature, and identity continues to resonate deeply.
