Bhubaneswar, Jan 1: Former Congress legislator Akshaya Acharya passed away on Thursday at his residence in Kahalia, where he breathed his last after a prolonged battle with cancer. He had been suffering from the disease for a long time and was under treatment.

Acharya had represented the Nilgiri constituency twice as a Congress candidate-first from 1980 to 1985, and then again from 1995 to 2000. His tenure in the Odisha Legislative Assembly was marked by his commitment to the welfare of his constituency and the state.

Throughout his political career, Akshaya Acharya was a respected leader known for his efforts in promoting the development of Nilgiri and his active involvement in community affairs. His death has deeply saddened his supporters and colleagues, with many political leaders, well-wishers, and locals offering their heartfelt condolences.

His passing is being widely mourned across the state, as he was seen as a stalwart of the Congress party in the region. His contributions to local governance and his dedication to public service will be remembered for years to come.
