US Ambassador pledges to strengthen strategic ties with India

Diplomatic ties between Washington and New Delhi are set to deepen as Sergio Gor officially assumed his role on Monday. Taking the oath as the new US Ambassador-designate to India and Special Envoy to South and Central Asia, Gor emphasized the authentic bond shared between President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Speaking at the US Embassy in the national capital, Sergio Gor outlined a clear mission to elevate the partnership between the world's oldest and largest democracies. He described the relationship between Trump and Modi as "real," noting that true friendship allows room for disagreement while ensuring differences are ultimately resolved.

Trump-Modi Bond and Upcoming Visits

Recalling his travels with President Trump, the new envoy shared insights into the personal rapport between the two leaders. Gor mentioned that Trump often speaks fondly of his last visit to India. He also hinted at a potential visit by the US President within the next year or two.

"President Trump has a habit of calling at 2 in the morning, and with the time difference in New Delhi, it might work out pretty well," Gor remarked humorously, highlighting the close communication channels between the nations.

India to Join Pax Silica

In a significant announcement, Ambassador Gor revealed that India will be invited to join "Pax Silica" next month as a full member. This US-led strategic initiative aims to construct a secure and innovation-driven silicon supply chain. The group already includes nations like Japan, South Korea, the United Kingdom, and Israel. This move will integrate India into a critical network covering everything from minerals and energy to AI development and semiconductors.

Trade Deal and Future Goals

Addressing the much-anticipated India-US trade deal, Gor acknowledged the challenges involved in negotiating with a massive economy like India. However, he expressed determination to get the deal across the finish line. He confirmed that active engagement is ongoing, with a scheduled call on trade set for Tuesday.

Beyond trade, the Ambassador stressed that cooperation would continue in vital sectors such as security, counter-terrorism, education, and health. Gor concluded by expressing his excitement to travel across the "incredible nation" of India and work towards redefining modern diplomacy.
