Bhubaneswar, March 18: Tension prevailed at the BJB College hostel campus after a violent clash broke out between two groups of students, leaving more than 25 injured. The incident reportedly began during a farewell party and soon escalated into a major confrontation.
Sources said students from two hostels were involved in the clash, during which glass bottles and stones were hurled at each other. The violence continued for nearly one-and-a-half hours, turning the campus into a battleground with repeated attacks and counterattacks.
Several injured students, many with serious injuries, were shifted to Capital Hospital for treatment.
In view of the situation, police deployed three platoons of force in and around the hostel premises. Senior officials, including the Additional DCP and Zone ACP, along with personnel from two police stations and around 10 PCR vans, were deployed to restore order.
An temporary police camp has also been set up between the hostels to keep a close watch on the situation.
