New Delhi, August 20: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday extended strong support to National Democratic Alliance (NDA) Vice Presidential nominee CP Radhakrishnan, expressing confidence that he would excel in the role and further contribute to India’s progress.

“Along with ministers, party colleagues and NDA leaders, I accompanied Thiru CP Radhakrishnan as he filed his nomination for the post of Vice President of India. The NDA family is confident that he will be an outstanding VP and will enrich our journey towards national progress,” PM Modi shared on X.
CP Radhakrishnan officially filed his nomination papers for the upcoming Vice Presidential elections in the presence of PM Modi and several senior Union Ministers, including Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, Nitin Gadkari, JP Nadda, Kiren Rijiju, and Arjun Ram Meghwal. Around 20 proposers and 20 seconders supported his nomination.
Ahead of filing his papers, Radhakrishnan paid floral tributes to the statue of Mahatma Gandhi inside the Parliament complex. He also honoured the statues of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Mahatma Jyotirao Phule, Rani Lakshmibai, Dr. BR Ambedkar, and tribal icon Bhagwan Birsa Munda.
Radhakrishnan, currently serving as the Governor of Maharashtra since July 31, 2024, has previously held key constitutional posts, including Governor of Jharkhand and Telangana, as well as Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry. A seasoned parliamentarian, he represented Coimbatore in the Lok Sabha twice, in 1998 and 1999, and headed several parliamentary committees, including the Standing Committee and the Special Committee probing the Stock Exchange Scam.
Born on October 20, 1957, in Tiruppur, Tamil Nadu, Radhakrishnan pursued a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration before beginning his political journey. He joined the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) early on and later became part of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh in 1974. His rise in the BJP began in 1996 when he was appointed Tamil Nadu state secretary.
Prime Minister Modi lauded his nominee’s “dedication, humility, and intellect,” highlighting his decades of grassroots work in Tamil Nadu. With a rich political career and administrative experience, CP Radhakrishnan now steps forward as NDA’s choice for the nation’s Vice Presidency.
