​​​​​​​Rayagada, Oct 15: A violent altercation among construction workers turned deadly in Bhataguda village under Bissamcuttack police limits in Odisha’s Rayagada district which resulted in the death of one worker and left another critically injured late last night.

According to sources, a mega drinking water project is currently under construction in Bhataguda where workers from the Lanjigarh area of neighbouring Kalahandi district had been engaged and were staying at the site.

Around 10 PM on Tuesday, a dispute reportedly broke out among the workers, which quickly escalated into a physical fight. In the heat of the moment, a worker named Kunal Lohora allegedly attacked two fellow labourers with an axe.

One of the victims, Dillip Lohora, succumbed to his injuries on the spot. Another worker, identified as Lalit Majhi, sustained severe injuries and cried out for help. Hearing the commotion, local villagers rushed to the scene, rescued the injured worker, and sent him to a nearby medical facility for treatment.

They also managed to overpower the accused and immediately informed the Bishamakatak police. Police reached the site shortly after, seized the body, and took the accused into custody for further investigation.

Authorities have confirmed that the body will be sent for post-mortem examination once the deceased’s family arrives.
