Bhubaneswar, February 23: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Monday informed the state Assembly that 73 out of 77 illegal Bangladeshi immigrants identified by the state government have been successfully deported.

This action follows instructions from the Union Home Ministry, and the identification was part of a statewide operation aimed at detecting undocumented foreign nationals.

Among the 77 illegal immigrants, 73 have already been sent back to Bangladesh, while deportation procedures are in progress for the remaining individuals. Two of the individuals are under trial for allegedly using forged documents to obtain Indian passports.

As part of the initiative, a special team conducted verification of 2,261 individuals, confirming that 2,184 were Indian citizens and releasing them accordingly.

To support the repatriation process, the state government has set up 18 district-level detention centres and two state-level facilities. The identification drive, which began in May 2025, has been targeting suspected non-Indian nationals in various districts of the state.
