Balasore, April 27: In a deeply emotional incident from Khusaliganj village under Remuna block, a pet cow has reportedly been grieving the death of its owner, refusing food for nearly 13 days.
According to sources, Ramachandra Maharana of the village died after being accidentally pushed by his pet cow, Malli, on April 12. The incident occurred when the family was preparing to hand over the cow to a local youth who had requested to rear it. During the process, Malli allegedly pushed Ramachandra, causing him to fall. He later succumbed to the injuries.
Family members said Malli, which was born and raised in their cowshed about five years ago, shared a close bond with Ramachandra and his wife Sunati Maharana. Since the incident, the cow has reportedly stopped eating and has been in a distressed state.
Locals claim that Malli has neither been returning home nor allowing anyone to come close, indicating signs of unusual behavioural change. Though she consumed a small quantity of food during the mourning ritual, her condition has not improved significantly.
Ramachandra’s wife stated that the animal was cared for with affection and attention. However, its health appears to be deteriorating gradually, raising concern among family members and villagers.
The incident has drawn attention in the area, with many describing it as a rare display of emotional attachment between an animal and its owner.
