President Murmu empowers youth and honours officers on special occasion

India is marking a significant milestone in its democratic journey today by observing National Voters' Day. Celebrated annually on January 25, this occasion commemorates the foundation of the Election Commission of India (ECI) in 1950. The day is dedicated to encouraging citizens, especially the youth, to participate actively in the electoral process.

President Droupadi Murmu is set to lead the main celebrations in New Delhi as the Chief Guest. This year’s event operates under the powerful theme "My India, My Vote" and carries the tagline "Citizen at the Heart of Indian Democracy." During the ceremony, President Murmu will present Elector Photo Identity Cards (EPIC) to newly enrolled young voters, symbolizing their entry into the democratic fold.

The Election Commission has organized a grand event where excellence in election management will be recognized. Awards for Best Electoral Practices will be given to officers who have shown innovation in areas like security, logistics, and voter awareness. Additionally, the President will launch two key publications highlighting initiatives from the past year and the successful conduct of recent elections in Bihar.

Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and other senior officials will also attend, highlighting the commission's recent achievements. A major focus this year is the "Special Initiative for Roll" (SIR), which successfully purified voter lists in Bihar and is now expanding to other states. This initiative ensures that every eligible citizen is included while maintaining the sanctity of the electoral roll.

Celebrations are not limited to the capital. Across the country, events are taking place at over 11 lakh polling booths. In Odisha and other states, District Election Officers are organizing activities to felicitate new voters and spread awareness about voting rights. Educational institutions are also hosting debates and competitions to instill democratic values in students.
