Two great leaders forge deeper trade and technology partnerships
Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva is currently on a highly significant state visit to India, marking a monumental step forward in diplomatic relations. Saturday witnessed crucial Modi Lula bilateral talks in New Delhi, bringing top-level ministers and key officials together at Hyderabad House to strategize the future of their international partnership.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended a warm, ceremonial welcome to the visiting leader earlier in the day at the Rashtrapati Bhavan forecourt. President Droupadi Murmu also joined the prime minister in receiving the Brazilian president, who was accorded a prestigious Guard of Honour to kick off his official duties.
This diplomatic milestone is particularly notable because it brings the largest ever Brazilian delegation to Indian shores. Accompanied by eleven cabinet ministers and over three hundred influential business leaders—including fifty prominent corporate CEOs—President Lula is clearly focused on immense economic and strategic collaboration. These industry heads are gearing up to participate in a high-profile Business Forum aimed at boosting bilateral trade and increasing foreign investments in India.
Just a day prior, the visiting leader officially inaugurated the very first New Delhi office of the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency, commonly known as Apex. He shared his optimism about this milestone online, noting that this new commercial hub will actively promote South American products and services while drawing strategic global capital into their expanding economy.
Both leaders genuinely share incredible personal chemistry, according to Kenneth da Nobrega, Brazil's envoy to India. He emphasised that the prime minister and his Brazilian counterpart have moved far beyond professional colleagues to become close, trusting friends. This unique bond is rapidly taking historical India Brazil relations to entirely fresh and unprecedented heights.
Technology and global inclusion are also major, defining themes of this trip. The ambassador praised the Indian government for beautifully organizing the AI Impact Summit 2026. He highlighted how crucial it is to deeply integrate the developing nations of the Global South into the transformative wave of artificial intelligence, a shared vision heavily supported by both nations.
Delegation-level discussions featured several prominent Indian figures, including External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, and Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal. This comprehensive dialogue builds directly upon PM Modi's own landmark trip to Brasilia back in July 2025, which broke a fifty-year gap of Indian prime ministerial visits to the South American nation.
Through these profound and productive exchanges, both dynamic countries are setting a remarkably robust stage for enhanced global trade, strategic alignment, and advanced technological cooperation.
