Paris, Aug 8: The lone Indian male wrestler, who qualified for Paris Games 2024 is one win away from an Olympics medal.
Aman Sehrawat, stormed into the men's 57kg freestyle wrestling semifinals with a win over the 2022 World Champion Zelimkhan Abakarov of Albania.
Aman was too good for the experienced Albanian, who looked flummoxed on the mat at the end of the match.
It was yet another win by technical superiority (11-0) for Aman.
Earlier on Thursday, Aman beat Macedonia's Vladimir Egorov convincingly to advance into the quarterfinals. The 21-year-old secured a decisive 10-0 victory, showcasing the perfect technical superiority. His opponent was 29-year-old and is a former European champion.
Aman, who is also the Asian Championship Gold medallist and the only male wrestler from India to qualify for the Olympics.
Aman's victory is a much needed welcome relief for Indian sports lovers and wrestling fraternity in particular.
Because after the shocking disqualification of Indian woman wrestler Vinesh Phogat from the Gold medal bout on Wednesday, there was hardly any good news from the wrestling rings for India.
Woman debutant wrestler Antim Panghal lost her first fight badly on Wednesday.
But can Aman win his semifinal fight against his formidable opponent? If he does, will there be any more disqualification fears?
These apprehensions are bound to disturb Indian sports lovers, but if Aman can win his semifinal fight and assure India of another medal in Paris Games 2024,that would be a great solace for India, after the unfortunate Vinesh Phogat episode.
