Paris, July 25: He won the Olympic Gold medals twice. But this time, in his final Olympic appearance, veteran Andy Murray will not play the singles event.
The 37-year-old British sports icon Murray stated he will only play the doubles event and it will be his final professional career event in tennis.
It is understood that Murray decided to play only the doubles event since he was earlier underwent an operation. He skipped the singles in his final appearance at Wimbledon earlier this month after having surgery to remove a spinal cyst last month. But he had initially entered in singles and doubles, alongside Dan Evans, in Paris. But perhaps taking a realistic approach he decided against competing in the more taxing singles event.
However, his appearance in Paris Olympics is expected to be cheered by tennis fans as he is a popular player and it would be last hurrah in international tennis.
