Cuttack, Jn 15: Forest officials recovered the carcass of a female elephant in the West Narsinghpur range, near Chatarapada village, on Wednesday. The elephant, estimated to be over 50 years old, had reportedly been unwell for several days, said Pradeep Kumar Nayak, Range Officer of West Narsinghpur.

Last year, the Narsinghpur range had witnessed eight elephant deaths across the East and West ranges.

Following the discovery, Range Officer Pradeep Kumar Nayak, along with D.E.P.O. Dr. Bishwal Chichilichi, other forest staff, and Narsinghpur veterinary officer Nihar Ranjan Mishra, reached the site. A post-mortem was conducted, and the carcass was subsequently buried in the forest, officials confirmed.
