Paris, July 31: Many in India, till Wednesday,  might not be sure who Swapnil Kusale is.

But not anymore. Because Indian shooter Swapnil Kusale made his mark in the Paris Olympics 2024 on Wednesday by making it to the final of the Men's Rifle 50m 3-Positions event.

The Pune-born shooter Kusale produced an impressive performance in the qualification round to earn a spot amongst the top eight shooters with 590 points from 60 shots, including 38 inner 10s.

His journey to the final was marked by a strong start and consistent performance. He began with scores of 99 in the kneeling position, followed by 98 and 99 in the prone position. In the standing position, he managed scores of 98 and 97, ensuring his place in the final, which will take place on Thursday.

While Kusale thrived, fellow Indian shooter Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar finished in 11th place with 589 points. Despite being in contention for the top eight, Tomar's performance was hampered by a lower score of 95 in the first series of the standing position.

China's Liu Yukun emerged as a leading contender, topping the qualification with an Olympic record of 594 points. However, Du Linshu, who holds the World qualification record, surprisingly did not make the cut.
