Paris, Aug 8: India men's hockey team won a Bronze medal beating Spain 2-1 in the match for the third place at Paris Olympics 2024 at Stade Yves-du-Manoir on Thursday.
The star of the Indian win was captain Harmanpreet Singh, who netted both the goals.
It was seasoned Indian goalkeeper PR Sreejesh's last international appearance, and the team was determined to give their former captain a memorable farewell.
However, Spain scored the first goal of the match and took 1-0 lead through a penalty stroke, which was converted by Marc Miralles.
But captain Harmanpreet put India back on level terms converting a penalty corner in the second quarter and then scored the second goal as well.
After a painful 2-3 loss to Germany in the semifinal on Tuesday, India eyed back-to-back Olympic Bronze medals, having finished third in Tokyo three years back as well.
In the other semifinal, Spain had lost to the Netherlands 0-4 on Tuesday. But earlier, in the quarterfinals they had registered a mega upset win against title favourites Belgium.
