Paris, Aug 6: The Day 11 of Paris Olympics will have contrasting actions and emotions for two sportspersons from Odisha, who have been part of the Indian contingent for the Games 2024.
Javelin thrower Kishore Kumar Jena, who hails from Odisha, will be in action along with Tokyo Olympics Gold medallist Neeraj Chopra on Tuesday.
But the other Odisha sportsman Amit Rohidas, the seasoned defender of Indian men's hockey team, will have to sit out and watch his teammates play against mighty Germans in the semifinal.
The reason being Rohidas was issued a Red card during India-Great Britain quarterfinal. India though won that battle 4-2 in the penalty strokes, after both teams were tied 1-1 in the stipulated time, but India played with only 10 men after Rohidas was issued a Red card.
Admitted, sports-loving Indian fans will pin all their hopes on defending javelin Gold medal champion Neeraj Chopra and Harmanpreet Singh led Indian men's hockey team on, since there is high possibility of a medal finish from them.
But there would be few other development on Day 11 in the Games 2024, where Indian interests are likely to draw attention.
For example, Odisha's Kishore Jena will debut in the Olympics in javelin throw event. He will fancy his chances of a better show as he won a Silver medal in the Asian Games after Neeraj Chopra came back to clinch Gold. Earlier, Kishore was ahead of Neeraj on that day.
Worth mentioning that on October 4 last year, Kishore won the Silver medal at the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou, achieving a personal record throw of 87.54 meters.
Though he has been bit off-colour in recent events, but the athlete from Odisha would be eager to dazzle at the highest stage on one of the greatest day of his career as a sportsperson.
