Paris, Sep 5: Can she win a medal in the 100m sprint event?

Well, Indian sprinter Simran Sharma appears to be nicely poised for a podium finish, as she advanced to the women's 100m (T12) final of the Paralympics 2024, here on Thursday.

Simran, who was born prematurely with visual impairment, was ranked third overall in the semis. She will now compete in the four-sprinter final scheduled for later Thursday night.

Accompanied by her guide Abhay Singh, the 24-year-old from New Delhi finished second behind Germany's Katrin Mueller-Rottgardt in semifinal 2.

Earlier, Simran had produced a season's best effort of 12.17sec in her heats on Wednesday.

Besides Simran and Mueller-Rottgardt, Ukraine's Oksana Boturchuk and reigning Paralympic champion and world record holder Omara Durand of Cuba will compete for the top honours in the final. The T12 category is meant for athletes who have visual impairment.

Meanwhile, India have entered the quarterfinals of Mixed Team recurve open after beating Australia 5-4 in the thrilling clash. On the other hand, in the R6 – Mixed 50m Rifle Prone SH1 qualification round, neither of the two India shooters – Sidhartha Babu and Mona Agarwal – advanced to the final round.
