Kandhamal, Feb 23: Two Maoists who were killed in an exchange of fire between security personnel and Maoists yesterday have been found from the forest area by SOG jawans. The bodies will be brought to the Phulbani police headquarters for further procedures.
Kandhamal SP Harish Bishi confirmed the identities of the deceased Maoists. One of them has been identified as Yogesh and the other as Ratna. Both were residents of Chhattisgarh. Yogesh was an Area Committee Member of the CPI (Maoist) KKBN division, while Ratna was a party member.
Following the encounter, there is suspicion that several other Maoists may have been injured in the gunfight. The SOG team is still conducting intensive search operations in the forest area.
Sources said that the Maoist camp was suspected to be sheltering CPI (Maoist) State Committee member Shukru. Acting on this input, the entire SOG team has cordoned off the forest and continues combing operations in the area.
