Panchayat Election 2027: Door-to-Door voter survey begins in Ganjam

Berhampur, October 26: Preparations for the 2027 Panchayati Raj and urban local body elections have begun in Odisha’s Ganjam district, with Booth Level Officers (BLOs) conducting a door-to-door voter survey from October 26 to November 7, following the directions of the State Election Commission.

According to Ganjam Collector V. Keerthi Vasan, a survey team has been formed for each polling booth to verify voter details and ensure the preparation of an accurate electoral roll. Each team will include a BLO and an Anganwadi worker, who will visit households to check voter identity cards, verify the details of deceased voters and identify eligible people who have not yet registered.

The survey will also focus on ensuring that members of the same family, as far as possible, are assigned to the same polling booth. Efforts will also be made to ensure that voters from the same ward can exercise their franchise at the appropriate polling station.

BLOs had earlier carried out house numbering to facilitate the preparation of an error-free voter list. Eligible new voters who have not registered their names will also get an opportunity to enrol during the process.

In Ganjam’s 493 gram panchayats, 3,321 survey teams have been formed for 3,321 polling stations. The exercise will involve 480 block supervisors, 3,308 Booth Level Officers and 8,363 team members.

In the district’s urban local bodies, 295 survey teams have been constituted to cover 584 polling stations.

Officials will conduct physical verification of voter details and upload accurate information to the designated portal. The exercise aims to improve the accuracy of voter lists ahead of the 2027 local body elections.
