New Delhi, September 24: More than one crore students, teachers, parents and citizens across India are set to sing the complete version of Vande Mataram simultaneously at 11 am on Friday, September 25, as part of a nationwide programme marking the 150th year of the national song.

The initiative, titled ‘Namami Bharatam’, is being organised by Vidya Bharati Akhil Bharatiya Shiksha Sansthan, New Delhi, across more than 25,000 locations. Organisers said the programme seeks to embody the theme of “One Voice – One Resolve – One India.”
According to the organisers, the initiative goes beyond collective singing and aims to familiarise the younger generation with the historical journey of Vande Mataram, its contribution to India’s freedom movement and its place in the country’s public life.
Schools participating in the programme are also conducting interactive sessions, exhibitions, cultural programmes and other activities focusing on the history of Vande Mataram and its role in the freedom struggle.
Vande Mataram played a significant role in mobilising nationalist sentiment during India’s freedom movement. Following Independence, it was accorded the status of India’s National Song, while Jana Gana Mana was adopted as the National Anthem.
As part of the nationwide commemoration, the organisers are seeking record certification from the Asia Book of Records and the India Book of Records for what they describe as the largest simultaneous collective singing of Vande Mataram by students and members of the public at multiple locations.
In Delhi, more than one lakh students, teachers, parents and citizens at around 300 locations are expected to participate, according to Dr Satish Maheshwari, General Secretary of Vidya Bharati Delhi Prant.
The main Delhi event will be held at PGDAV College Campus, Ring Road, Nehru Nagar, Lajpat Nagar, at 11 am on September 25. Deshraj Sharma, All India General Secretary of Vidya Bharati, will attend as the chief guest.
Other programmes in the national capital will be organised at Mata Leelawanti Saraswati Bal Mandir in Hari Nagar, Saraswati Bal Mandir in Rajouri Garden and Shri Sanatan Dharam Saraswati Bal Mandir in Punjabi Bagh.

The organisers said the programme is intended to help young people connect with the history of India’s freedom struggle, strengthen their engagement with Indian culture and reinforce the spirit of national unity.
