Bhubaneswar, Aug 31: As many as 1,11,108 seats are lying vacant in degree colleges in Odisha after the beginning of the academic session of 2023-24.
This year the Department of Higher Education had increased 20,000 seats for +3 courses in degree colleges across the state.
There are a total of 2,70,163 seats available for admission into various +3 courses in 1040 colleges.
As many as 2,23,370 candidates had applied for admission this year and 1,59,055 students took admission by August 29, the last date of admission.
While there are 1,52,062 seats in the Arts stream, a total of 1,03,608 students have taken admission. There are 48,454 seats lying vacant.
Similarly, as many as 17,069 seats are lying vacant in the commerce stream out of 32,252 seats.
Only 19,000 seats have been filled up out of 45,987 seats in physical science courses. Besides, 16,286 students were admitted to the biology science out of 28,628 seats available.
For the new academic session of 2023-24, the Department of Higher Education had allowed e-admission to 2,086 seats in self-financing colleges. But only 1099 students have been admitted to these seats. As many as 3392 seats were filled in Sanskrit colleges out of 9148 seats.
