Sambalpur, July 16:Odisha State Open University (OSOU) continues to lead by example in environmental sustainability through its unique green initiative titled “Eco Cash Forest”.
The University organised a massive Plantation Drive to promote long-term ecological and economic benefits for the campus and the mother-nature as well, on Monday.
The event was graced by Prof. ShyamSundarPattnaik, Vice-Chancellor, OSOU, along with Registrar Dr. Chitta Ranjan Sahu, Controller of Finance Nalini Ranjan Sarangi, Er. Rakesh Goel and his counterpart Mrs. Goel, retired Hindalco employee S.K. Guru, and staff and faculty members including Rashmi Ranjan Mohapatra, Debasish Raiguru, and Sanghita Chand.
As part of this ongoing green initiative, 100 coconut saplings were planted inside the OSOU campus, sponsored by Hindalco. These new additions contribute significantly to the campus’s green environment and future fruit-bearing resources. This follows earlier successful plantations of 100 mango trees and 50 guava trees.
Building on this momentum, the OSOU plans to plant an additional Harada, Bahada, Amla, Jackfruit trees, Jamun trees, alongside further expansion with more mango and coconut trees under the Eco Cash Forest concept. This concept will manage the dense forest and also maintain the Saal, Saguanand and Karanja trees planted here.
While gracing the long term green initiative that involves a dedicated team of green brigades, Prof. Pattnaik emphasized that the university envisions this project not only as a step toward climate responsibility but also as a model of sustainable campus development where nature and economy go hand-in-hand.
