Koraput, Feb 3: In a major crackdown on illegal drug cultivation, the Excise Department and Koraput Police, under Operation Green Clean, have destroyed vast cannabis plantations worth crores in the district. The joint operation targeted the Boipariguda area, where cannabis plants worth over ₹4.5 crore, cultivated across 38 acres of forest land, were uprooted and destroyed.
The operation was carried out under the supervision of Koraput Excise Superintendent Arun Padhi and Boipariguda OIC Dambaru Dhar Batria. Acting on precise intelligence inputs, the joint team launched a coordinated drive and destroyed large-scale cannabis plantations hidden deep in the forest.
Illegal cultivation was detected in forested regions surrounding the villages of Katraguda and Bhatiguda, under the G. Majhiguda panchayat in Boipariguda police limits. After being destroyed, the seized cannabis plants were set on fire on the spot to prevent further misuse.
Officials highlighted that the region's remote, difficult terrain, coupled with its history of Maoist influence, had made Boipariguda vulnerable to illegal cannabis farming. However, with continued enforcement efforts like Operation Green Clean, authorities are determined to eliminate such unlawful activities in the region.
The district administration has emphasized its commitment to furthering similar drives and has issued a stern warning that strict legal action will be taken against anyone involved in illegal drug cultivation or trafficking.
