Puri, April 11: The state government is planning to introduce an online slot booking system for devotees to facilitate darshan at the Shrimandir in a more organized manner. Under the proposed system, devotees will be able to book their darshan slots in advance through an online platform.
However, the move has drawn mixed reactions. Servitors have expressed strong opposition, citing concerns over the temple’s traditional rituals (niti), which often face delays. They argue that any delay in rituals could disrupt the scheduled time slots, causing inconvenience to devotees.
Many devotees have also raised concerns, stating that the online system may create inequality and restrict access. Both servitors and a section of devotees have suggested that instead of introducing online booking, the focus should be on ensuring a disciplined darshan system within the temple, particularly inside the Natamandap.
Meanwhile, rising temperatures in April have added to the challenges faced by devotees. With inadequate shed facilities at the four gates of the temple, many are forced to stand under the scorching sun. Senior citizens, women, and children are the worst affected, with reports of devotees fainting and falling ill due to the heat.
There is growing demand for the administration to install additional sheds and provide proper resting arrangements near the temple to ensure the safety and comfort of devotees.
