Paradip, Dec 3: Jagatsinghpur Police conducted an extensive late-night raid on Tuesday to identify Bangladeshi nationals residing illegally in the district. The operation, led by Additional SP Satyabrata Das, took place in the Dariapur slum, behind Tarikunda High School. Police detained 21 people for verification as part of the crackdown on illegal immigrants.

The raid, which involved nearly two platoons of police force and several senior officers, targeted around 20 houses in the slum. Authorities detained 15 men and women, along with six children, on suspicion of being foreign nationals. The detainees were later moved to a cyclone shelter in Bagalpur, Biridi, for further investigation.

This raid follows previous operations in the various slums and the area behind Tarikunda College, where police found a large cache of weapons. Investigations revealed that Sikandar Alam, a key figure in the region, had allegedly brought several Bangladeshi nationals to the area and provided them with shelter.

Meanwhile, a separate verification drive was conducted in Paradip on Tuesday. During this operation, three individuals were detained on suspicion of being illegal immigrants. However, upon further investigation, it was determined that the suspects were fishermen from West Bengal, and they were released after being cleared.

The police action highlights the ongoing efforts to curb illegal immigration and ensure the safety and security of the district. Authorities have assured that similar operations will continue in the future to tackle the issue.
