Keonjhar, Nov 18: Keonjhar observed a 12-hour bandh over the alleged rape of a minor tribal girl from Urumunda village in the Bansapal block on Monday. The bandh, called by the Bishwahindu Parishad was aimed at protesting the horrific incident and demanding justice.

The bandh, which lasted from 6 AM to 6 PM, resulted in the closure of markets, schools, colleges, petrol pumps, and shops across the district, with the exception of essential services. Public transport and vehicle movement were also completely halted. The impact of the bandh was felt in various areas, including Keonjhar city, Turumunga, Patna, Champua, Joda, Badbil, Ghasipura, and Anandapur.

Political leaders and activists from the Bishwahindu Parishad participated in picketing at several locations, including the district collector's office and other prominent spots. They voiced their outrage over the incident and demanded stronger action against the culprits.

In a statement, the protesters alleged that despite repeated reports to the administration, little action had been taken, leading to an increase in chaos in the region.

The bandh organizers have called for the immediate identification of individuals involved in anti-social activities. They also urged the authorities to take more decisive action against illegal activities, which they believe are contributing to rising crime rates.
