New Delhi, May 3: In a significant political engagement amidst growing security concerns in the Kashmir Valley, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Saturday met Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his official residence.
The high-level meeting focused on a range of issues, with particular emphasis on the recent terror attack in Pahalgam that shook the region and claimed the lives of 26 people, most of them tourists.
According to officials, the closed-door meeting lasted approximately 30 minutes and was centered around the prevailing security situation in Jammu and Kashmir. Chief Minister Abdullah is said to have briefed the prime minister on the details of the April 22 attack, which marked one of the deadliest assaults in the valley in recent months. He also reportedly presented an overview of the state’s security preparedness and sought the Centre’s continued support in combating militancy and ensuring the safety of civilians, especially as the tourist season picks up.
The interaction marks the first direct meeting between Omar Abdullah and Prime Minister Modi following the Pahalgam tragedy. The attack, which targeted a group of tourists, has raised national and international concerns about the stability of the region and the safety of visitors.
It is believed that Abdullah underscored the importance of restoring public confidence and called for a coordinated strategy between the central and state governments to address the underlying challenges.
