Bhubaneswar, Sept 9: Nandankanan Zoological Park in Bhubaneswar added some new species to its wildlife from Mizoram’s Aizawl zoo on Friday.
As per the scheme of exchanging animals, a pair of Hoolock gibbons (male Kuktea, 4, and female Salbini, 13), a pair of Pig-tailed macaques (male and female, 7), and a Himalayan Black Bear (female Dawii, 11) have been brought to Nandankanan.
With the approval of animal excahnge programme, there are now 163 different species at Nandankanan.
Worth mentioning, the NZP had written to the Central Zoo Authority on September 26, 2020, seeking to get 12 animals from the Aizawl Zoological Park. Again, the zoo sought 18 numbers of animals from the zoo in another letter to the Central authority on December 23 last year.
One pair of tigers was sent to Aizawl Zoological Park in March this year, under the exchange programme.
