A trained mountaineer, Madhusmita received her formal education in mountaineering from the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute (HMI), by the Government of India, in 2022. Since then, she has climbed Africa’s highest peak, Mount Kilimanjaro, Europe’s Mount Elbrus, Himachal Pradesh’s Mount Friendship and Mount Renok, among others.

Before this expedition, on April 16, 2025, the Managing Director of SNM Mines Group, Mr. Prabodh Mohanty, extended his best wishes to Madhusmita by presenting her with the national flag for the mission. She began her journey to Mount Meera from Kathmandu on April 19, 2025.

Her expedition involved daily trekking of 5 to 7 hours, camping each night to rest and acclimatizes. On April 27, she reached the base camp, and the following day, she arrived at the Advanced Base Camp (5,787m). After a short rest, she began the final push to the summit at 2:30 a.m. on April 29, accompanied by her guide.

Facing biting cold and high-altitude pressure that typically reduces stamina and causes fatigue, Madhusmita also experienced physical exhaustion during the climb. Nevertheless, she overcame the odds and proudly reached the summit, where she unfurled the Indian tricolour at the peak of Mount Mera.

After spending some time at the summit, she safely descended back to base camp. According to reports, Madhusmita later successfully crossed the challenging Amphu Laptsa Pass, completing a 10-hour climb and taking rest at a nearby camp.

Madhusmita is the younger daughter of former Indian Air Force officer Premananda Patra and Pushpanjali Patra. Professionally, she works as a computer engineer at TCS (Tata Consultancy Services).

Looking ahead, Madhusmita Patra has set her sights on even greater heights aiming to conquer the highest peaks of other continents, including the world’s tallest mountain, Mount Everest.
