Bhubaneswar, June 12: Mohan Charan Majhi, poised to assume the role of Odisha’s new Chief Minister, dedicated significant time at Capital Hospital to stand by the grieving family of his personal assistant, who succumbed to injuries following a fatal road accident.
Chandan Mohapatra (31), the trusted aide of Majhi, tragically met with an accident near Nilakantha Temple within Nayapalli police limits around 11 am. Despite immediate medical attention at Capital Hospital, Mohapatra was declared deceased.
Nauri Nayak, former BJP MLA from Rengali, recounted, "Mohan Bhai visited the hospital during Mohapatra’s postmortem procedures and remained present to offer support."
Following his hospital visit, the CM designate briefly returned home before participating in the legislature party meeting, where he was unanimously elected as the leader. Nayak disclosed that Mohapatra was en route to Majhi’s official residence when the tragic incident unfolded, underscoring their enduring professional bond.
Providing insight into the accident, a police official stated, "The incident occurred on a single-lane road as Mohapatra was riding a motorcycle when struck by a car from Gopabandhu Square. He sustained severe injuries to his right leg and head."
Authorities have detained the involved vehicle and identified its owner, who was reportedly absent at the time of the incident, with their driver operating the vehicle.
Efforts are now underway to apprehend the driver, who fled the scene. Police have initiated legal proceedings, registering a case and launching a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident.
