Kendrapara, Jan 14: After remaining closed for nearly a week owing to the counting of saltwater crocodiles, the Bhitarkanika National Park in Odisha’s Kendrapara district reopened for visitors today.
As per reports, the national park was out of bounds for tourists from January 5 to 13 due to the census which was conducted in five ranges.
Meanwhile, the census reports stated that the population of the saltwater crocodiles has gone up marginally this year.
A total of 1,811 estuarine crocodiles were found at Bhitarkanika Wildlife Sanctuary and its nearby areas.
Notably, the figure stood at 1,793 crocodiles at the wildlife sanctuary during a census last year.
