Puri has begun preparations for the holy Kartik month, with the registration process for Habisyali commencing today.

According to official reports, online registration will open on 19 September through the government portal https://edistrict.odisha.gov.in. Eligible widows (up to 70 years) and married women aged between 50 and 70 years, who are physically and mentally fit, can apply to avail accommodation and related services. Priority will be given to new applicants who have not participated in the camp before.

Around 2,500 Habisyali are expected to take part this year. They will be accommodated at Brundabati Niwas, Bagala Dharmasala, Puri Municipality Kalyan Mandap, and the Akshaya Patra building, sources said.

The Odisha government has made elaborate arrangements for their stay, including Jagannath darshan, prasad seva, and other facilities throughout the month-long Kartik Brata. Free mahaprasad will also be served to the participants daily.

With these measures in place, authorities believe this year’s Habisyali camp will provide a spiritually enriching and fulfilling experience experience for devotees during the sacred observance.
