Balasore, July 27: A youth has been detained for allegedly attempting to rape the wife of an assistant professor inside Fakir Mohan University campus in Odisha’s Balasore.
The accused youth, identified as Harihar Patra of Mardarajpur village near the university campus, has been detained by the police and is being questioned.
As per reports, the incident took place on Saturday afternoon when the accused allegedly entered their official residence inside the varsity campus pretending to check the gas system. At around 1:30 PM, he rang the doorbell, and when the woman opened the door, he said he was there for gas-related work.
Once inside, he allegedly locked the door and attempted to rape the woman. However, she fought back, screamed for help, and quickly called her husband.
Hearing her cries, the security personnel near the colony gate rushed to the house, overpowered the man, and alerted Remuna police.
Upon getting the information, Remuna police arrived at the spot and detained him for questioning.
An investigation into the matter is underway to ascertain the culprit’s motive behind this and prior criminal background, said the police.
